IV. Short Talk 短文 18% 每題6

Listen to the talk. Then choose the best answer to each question.

Science fiction fans are calling on scientists to invest more effort in research on space travel. In science fiction movies and books, spaceships can speed across the universe with ease. In reality, however, human beings have so far only succeeded in reaching the moon. What’s needed is a scientific breakthrough that will enable a spaceship to travel near the speed of light, which is 670 million miles per hour. At that pace, time will slow down for people on the spaceship. Thus, they’ll be able to travel vast distances in reasonable periods of time. Achieving this goal will be difficult but truly worthwhile. For it will begin a golden age of space travel and allow human beings to explore the universe.

(C) 12. According to this talk, what is the problem with real spaceships?

A. They’re still small. B. They don’t last.

C. They’re too slow.    D. They aren’t safe.

(A) 13. What do people hope future spaceships will do?

A. Visit really distant places.

B. Make space travel cheaper.

C. Support a moon colony.

D. Save mankind from destruction.

(A) 14. What does the speaker imply about the task that lies ahead?

A. It’s a huge challenge.

B. It’s almost finished.

C. It’s quite impossible.

D. It’s too expensive.
